Frequently Asked Questions — Truncate Text
What does truncating at word boundaries mean?
When you truncate at a word boundary, the tool cuts the text at the last complete word that fits within your character limit rather than cutting a word in half. This produces cleaner results like "The quick brown..." instead of "The quick bro...".
Can I customize the ending that is added after truncation?
Yes. By default the tool adds an ellipsis (…) but you can change this to any text such as "... Read more," "[truncated]," or nothing at all. The suffix length is subtracted from your character limit so the total output stays within bounds.
Can I truncate multiple texts at once?
Yes. In batch mode, enter multiple texts separated by blank lines and the tool will truncate each one independently using the same settings. This is useful for preparing social media excerpts or database descriptions in bulk.
